Inner Projection

We are being deceived all the time by advertisers, food companies, the medical industry, business, even by educators, and, dare I say, our parents? Yes, but in most cases they don’t know it or do it with malice because what they learned as “the” way is just “a” way that was passed on to them by their parents. There’s the story of the mom who instructs her daughter to use two pans to cook the pot roast. The daughter asks her mother who tells her to ask her grandmother who tells her to ask her great grandmother who says, “Well, the one time I cooked it I didn’t have a pan large enough, so I used two.” Ah, ha!

And that’s the key; most of what is being passed on as “the” way is “a” way which in many cases isn’t even the best way of all the ways. Get it? Way!

But there’s more, much more. In today’s world you have a much greater chance of having to change careers than ever before, that at some point you will own a business (1 in 6 Americans do even part-time just to take advantage of the tax breaks to survive economically), that you will become an entrepreneur, even if you work for someone else because of downsizing, outsourcing, and the increase in part-time workers, contractors and such. You, my friend, need to be more nimble on your feet and the key decision maker. It’s not like the old days when you could rely on one company, work there 40 years, get the golden handshake and pension, and you’re done.

So what’s a poor soul to do? Critical, creative, intuitive thinking. Yes, not only will it help you problem solve, but it will help to see past the stories that are being told you by organizations and individuals to a much more productive, empowered, powerful life.
